The prison ministry consists of volunteers who have heeded the call of our Lord Jesus Christ to carry the message of transformation through the grace and power of our Lord Jesus Christ to the incarcerated and their families.

Under construction

The ministry currently operates at the Welikada Men and Women’s Prisons, the Colombo Remand Prison (CRP), the Magazine Prison and the Mahara Prison. The volunteers spend a time of Praise and Worship with the inmates and share the Word of God with them, Many lives have been transformed by the presence of the Living God. The volunteers distribute Bibles and it is heartening to inmates meditating on the Word of God during their spare time.

Once released, they continue to seek spiritual nourishment from the Community of the Risen Lord . Plans are underway to start a program to help ex former prisoners and their families. If you feel that the Lord is calling you to serve in this ministry, please send us an

A volunteer speaks out

I joined the Prison Ministry to serve the Lord. But as I continue in this Ministry, I see that the Lord is taking me to a deeper level in my own journey, through those I minister to in the prison. Whenever I see the Lord's hand upon these sisters, my mouth fills up with His praise. Here is one such incident.

‘Sister, sister,’ said one female prisoner tapping on my shoulder as we were leaving the women’s prison. I turned to see the ever smiling face of Mala – ‘I may not be here next week when you come’ she said – This came as a surprise as I knew that she had only served a small part of her sentence. She told me that since she started attending worship sessions, her life was totally transformed. During the last two months she had been spending two hours each night in prayer. The authorities noticed the change in her conduct and shortened her term in prison. A Christian family has undertaken to keep her with them during her parole period.
