About Discussion Groups
Wikipedia, the popular online encyclopedia, defines a discussion group as a web based resource for holding discussions and posting user generated content. The discussion board creates running conversations with "threads" using the email messages it receives. Threads are topical connections between messages on a metaphorical "corkboard".
Discussion groups have a long history of being used as support groups. For example, parents who have lost a child can join a discussion group for grieving parents and share their feelings. Others, in the group, who are typically counselors or parents who have had the same experience, share their insights and support them through their grief.
